Memorial Day is a time to pause our usual activities and take a moment to offer gratitude and respect for those who gave all to protect our freedom. Our real estate agents suggest taking a short break from exploring Richmond real estate opportunities so you can enjoy some of the most memorable Memorial Day events happening around the area.

Not only will taking a break give you time to relax and recharge but spending some time out in the community will also help you get a feel for what living here is really like. Not sure what to do over Memorial Day weekend? Here are a few of the most popular events you'll want to check out!

  1. Virginia War Memorial's They Gave All (TGA) 5k - 621 S. Belvidere St., Richmond, VA 23220
On Saturday, May 25th, join the Virginia War Memorial in honoring our fallen soldiers by participating in the They Gave All (TGA) 5k. Registration is currently open, and participants are welcome to run, walk, or sponsor a memorial flag.

RVA Area Parks and Outdoor Spaces

Grab your most comfortable shoes and join our real estate agents for National Take a Walk in the Park Day on March 30! The fresh air, the cool breeze and the sounds of sweet serenity — the RVA is full of fantastic green spaces that will put you in touch with nature.

With so many great parks around the Richmond area, you may be wondering where you should take a celebratory stroll on March 30. Fear not! The Napier ERA team loves any opportunity to soak up some sunshine. We've created this list of our six favorite parks around town that we know are perfect for a relaxing Spring walk.

  1. Chimborazo Park & Playground – 3201 E. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23223
If you're looking for a park that has it all, Chimborazo Park & Playground has something for families and furry friends alike. The park itself is an impressive 30-acres in size which present an amazing view of Richmond. Their newly renovated children's playground one block away has plenty of fun for young children. If your four-legged friend is joining you, the Church Hill Dog Park is on the eastern end of the park and features two sectioned off areas for dogs of all sizes. History buffs will enjoy a stop at the National Battlefield Park headquarters while photo-fiends should definitely snap a shot of the miniature Statue of Liberty.

With thousands of real estate agents in the Central Virginia area, it's tough for any one agent to win an award from the Richmond Association of Realtors. That's why we're absolutely delighted to announce that Napier agents were honored four times at the recent Richmond Association of Realtors at the 2018 RAR Awards and Officer Installation.

David Hamil

Our first congratulations goes to David Hamil, winner of the 2018 LaVerne A. Boschen, Jr. Outstanding Educator of the Year Award for his commitment to education for the Richmond Association of Realtors. David works through the association to train and certify that all agents are up to speed on new regulations, legal requirements and a host of other requirements that any agent licensed in Virginia must adhere to. David has been a member of the Napier team for almost 18 years, having managed two of our offices (Mechanicsville and West End) and is now an associate broker at our West End office now. Thank you, David, for your years of service and dedication to teaching Realtors in our area.

Named for her outstanding commitment to community service is the managing broker of the Napier ERA Tri-Cities office, Libby Gatewood. Libby has been a licensed real estate sales associate in the Commonwealth of Virginia since 1979 and obtained her broker license in 1982. She is a licensed certified residential appraiser and a licensed real estate instructor. In addition to serving Napier agents and clients in the Colonial Heights, Petersburg and many other tri-cities communities, Libby is very active in serving her community through the Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation and other charitable organizations. Libby received the C. Porter Vaughan, Jr. Outstanding Service Award for her faithfulness to the principles of organized real estate and community involvement. Libby was also inducted as the Vice President of the Board of RAR for 2019. We offer our congratulations and thanks to Libby for all that she does for breast cancer awareness and research as well as the commitment you have to upholding and enhancing the values of Realtors.

Last but certainly not least, a hearty congratulations to Dianne Long, winner of the coveted Realtor of the Year award! Winners are chosen based on their faithfulness to principles and laws of organized real estate, efforts to encourage good real estate practice among other real estate brokers, time spent with press and general public explaining the real estate profession, as well as their work with the Richmond Association of Realtors, the Virginia Association of Realtors, and the National Association of Realtors. Winners are also chosen on the basis of involvement in community affairs and their business accomplishments. Dianne has served on several committees and is a past recipient of the RAR Lifetime Membership award and Outstanding Sales Associate of the Year award. A Napier agent for more than 30 years, Dianne is known for serving with class, commitment, and a smile on her face. Congratulations, Dianne, for this prestigious award and thank you for contributing to Central Virginia's real estate market for many years. We are blessed to have you on the Napier ERA team.

Mark Joyner, David Hamil, Libby Gatewood, Dianne Long, and Jim Napier

One more note for this special night is for Cory Metts, who was accepted into RAR's distinguished Leadership Academy. The Leadership Development Academy is a six-month program designed to develop visionary, service-oriented Realtor members for professional, civic and community leadership roles, and those selected represent the cream of the crop of young Realtors. Cory is an alumnus of Longwood University and stays very active throughout the Central Virginia area in his work with the Young Leaders Board of World Pediatric Project, the YMCA board, and CAPITAL& Career Accelerator. We look forward to having Cory on our team for a very long time!

The 2018 RAR meeting and celebration was held at the beautiful Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. If you haven't gone to see their lights yet, make it a priority to go this holiday season. From Bob Ross to unicorns to a peacock, there are many beautiful light displays that will de-"light" you, your family, and friends. Check out the holiday-themed GardenFest here!

Thank you to RAR for recognizing real estate agents' hard work and commitment and hosting such a great evening celebrating the future of real estate. Congratulations to all honorees and officers. It is a distinguished privilege to work in a community of Realtors committed to advancing our communities and elevating the profession.

Don't forget to send your words of congratulations to our team on Facebook and Instagram. If you're interested in joining the award-winning Napier ERA team, please visit our recruiting website at joinnapierera.com!
