Outdoor Events

With spring already here and summer waiting just over the horizon, this is an exciting, busy time of year for big outdoor events around Central Virginia. It's time to start planning for some of the biggest annual festivals of the year near Richmond homes for sale, as well as fun, recurring events that are only available during the spring/summer.   • Richmond Shakespeare Festival – 4305 Sulgrave Rd., Richmond, VA 23221
    Held every summer at the stunningly beautiful Agecroft Hall & Gardens, the Richmond Shakespeare Festival is your chance to see some of history's greatest plays brought to life on an outdoor stage. This year marks the 25th annual edition of the Richmond Shakespeare Festival, so it's sure to be a special one. The two plays that you'll see this year are Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing (May 23–June 23, 2024) and Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus (July 4–21, 2024).

  • Richmond Jazz and Music Festival – 1700 Hampton St., Richmond, VA 23220
    Maymont is always a pleasant place to spend a day outdoors during the spring and summer, so music lovers will be especially excited to hear that the Richmond Jazz and Music Festival is returning to Maymont in 2024! While the exact dates and performers for 2024 are yet to be announced, the event typically takes place over one weekend in August and features tons of talented artists. Check the Richmond Jazz and Music Festival website for dates and ticket info as summer draws nearer.

  • Virginia Reads Book Festival – 7 E. Old St., Petersburg, VA 23803
    There are fun events near Petersburg homes for sale as well, thanks in part to community organizations like the Petersburg Area Art League. The annual Virginia Reads Book Festival is held in the PAAL Art Park, perfect for stocking up on all of the best reading materials for summer days spent with your toes in the sand. The event also features creative workshops, activities for kids, and chances to connect with local small businesses that are involved in the arts. Experience it all on June 29, 2024.

  • Flowers After 5 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens – 1800 Lakeside Ave., Richmond, VA 23228
    Flowers After 5 at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens is a recurring event that you can enjoy all spring/summer long, with live music in the Gardens every Thursday evening. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens stays open late for this event, providing the perfect opportunity to visit if you work during the day. Admission to the concerts, which feature both local and national acts, is included with the cost of admission to Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. On select nights, the Gardens partner with the Richmond SPCA for Fidos After 5, when leashed dogs are allowed to attend.

  • Richmond Greek Festival – 30 Malvern Ave., Richmond, VA 23221
    A weekend of outstanding food and engaging culture celebrating all things Greek, the Richmond Greek Festival has been a staple of the spring schedule for more than 40 years. It's back once again from May 30 – June 2, 2024, and will be raising money for a variety of local charities as always. Show up with an empty stomach, and you definitely won't leave hungry.
