Dog Parks Richmond

Richmond is known as a very pet-friendly city, which is good news for anyone planning to move there with some four-legged friends. Our real estate agents are excited to share their favorite parks in Richmond, where you can take your pooch for a hike or let them play off-leash!

  • Barker Field Dog Park - 1300 Blanton Ave, Richmond, VA 23221
Richmond's oldest dog park, Barker Field Dog Park, remains a favorite spot in the local community. Barker Field is located within the larger Byrd Park and includes multiple fenced-in areas where dogs can run off-leash, including separate spaces for large dogs and small dogs. Just minutes from these Richmond homes for sale, the park also includes water and pet waste stations, as well as benches and picnic tables for us human visitors.

  • Forest Hill Park - 4021 Forest Hill Ave, Richmond, VA 23225
Though it isn't officially considered a dog park, Richmond's Forest Hill Park is known for being one of the best pet-friendly hiking spots in town. The densely wooded park includes about 3 miles of clearly marked single-track trails where leashed pets are allowed, making it a great place for humans and canines alike to get some exercise. The park also includes a charming small lake and open fields that are great for post-hike lounging.

  • Church Hill Dog Park - 3600 E Grace St, Richmond, VA 23223
Located within Chimborazo Park, Church Hill Dog Park is a city-run dog park that offers some great amenities for pooches. The dog park is completely fenced-in, allowing dogs to run free. Separate areas are provided for large and small dogs, and there are also canine cool-down stations, a pet kiddie pool, a waste disposal station, and hoses for washing off afterward. Church Hill Dog Park also has picnic shelters and is known for its expansive 180-degree view of the city.

  • Petersburg National Battlefield - Petersburg, VA 23803
Although Petersburg National Battlefield might be better known for the historical significance of its Civil War battle sight—the Siege of Petersburg was the longest military event of the war—it's also a very dog-friendly park. Leashed pets are allowed almost everywhere in the park, including several miles of nature trails. A short drive from Richmond and a stone's throw from many Petersburg homes for sale, the National Battlefield has something for everyone.

  • Belle Isle - 1 Belle Isle, Richmond, VA 23225
Dogs must be kept on a leash at all times at Belle Isle Park, but there are still plenty of opportunities for pets and their humans to have fun here. The park is located on an island on the James River in the heart of Downtown Richmond and offers several miles of crisscrossing nature trails, plus great views from the suspension bridge that connects it to the mainland. Plus, leashed pets can also take a dip in the river to cool off.
