Currently, Hopewell is in the process of developing a Downtown Revitalization Plan, which received an Award of Excellence in the Downtown Public and Planning category from the Virginia Downtown Development Association at their 19th annual conference. This plan will put forth a long-range vision for the future of Downtown Hopewell as the heart of a vibrant city and the destination for the region.

Hopewell City schools provide excellent educational programs for approximately 4000 students. The Hopewell School Division was recognized by the Department of Education as the only division in the state of Virginia to receive the honor of being a Highly Distinguished Title I School Division.
