Just over 100 miles south of Washington, D.C., 28 miles east of Charlottesville, and 6 miles west of Richmond, Goochland County is part of the Richmond Metropolitan Statistical Area. While the western end of the county is predominately open farm and forestlands, the eastern end consists of valuable stone deposits from which beautiful granite is being mined today.
